trip to birishiri

this weekend i made a trip to mymensingh, netrokona with some of my university friends. it was a fantastic tour. spent one night on a boat on the river "brahmaputra". the moon was totally round and glamorous. we sang our hearts out. then went to birishiri/shushong durgapur... upto the bangladesh-india border. there is a army check-post named "bijoypur". the returning journey was full of unexpected events. for example we found out that one of the bridges we passed earlier has broken down! we had to take an alternative route through the narrow road between rural villages. had to push two buses from muddy-ditch-looking roads to make our way out, unless we had to spent the night in the middle of nowhere, with no food, no electricity and above all no smoke!!!... :P anyways i think the pictures will explain better than my words.

I just made a trip to Birishiri this weekend as well.

So, here's the missing information concerning how to reach there and what you can do.

You can go to Mymensingh or Netrokona. From there you can take a local bus to Birishiri. I drove my own car all the way - but since the last 30 km road from Netrokona to Birishiri is very bad, I will not recommend putting your car through so much trouble. The total distance is around 170 km one way and took me about 5 hrs to reach there.

Once you reach birishiri, you can cross the river shomeshshori by a boat. On the other side, you can hire a rickshaw or a motorcycle ride to look around.

Things to see: There is 'china matir pahar/shada pahar'. You can go up to the BDR camp. From there you can enjoy the river bank of the shomeshshori river. And this is an awesome view. And finally, there is a Christian Missionary there that you can take a look at.

The most beautiful thing out there is the view at the rever bank. You need to be able to sit back and relax for a while to enjoy that.
Unfortunately I did not find much facilities there for you to do so. So the other alternative would be to hire a boat for a while and take a ride along for a while.
