follow up: trip to birishiri
today i was requested on IM from mr 'bohemian'... he is interested to go to birishiri... and found me through this post. i wanted to help him, though i could not provide enough useful information i guess. in this trip i almost had to do nothin. because my friends organized the whole tour, i just joined the party and enjoyed. they hired a microbus for the whole day. the driver guided us to birishiri. my friends managed a boat and we went to the border through the river somessor. i got in and enjoyed and this is the exact same way i came back to dhaka... :)... anyway i asked mr 'Bohemian' about the source of my blog out of interest and found out that google is the culprit behind this total misunderstanding.
.....
me: amar blog kothe theke pailen... ektu jante ichha kortese

about corruption
our country is going through a major cleansing in the political parties and all other sectors as possible. mainly the corruption that spread like wild fire and touched almost every single person who can afford to be corrupted. from the top to the bottom. recently a news came out from a minister that our former prime minister helped to set free a murderer in exchange of money!! people know these politicians are corrupted to their bones and yet these bloodsuckers are the only people you have in your option. sad thing is, when the authority has no ethics and a thug itself, every tom, dick and harry will lose their moral degeneracy and be dishonest.
here is an incident that occurred today. the bill collector of our satellite tv connection came to collect this months payment. i was planning to get connection in my computer as well. so i asked him about the procedure to do that. so he said i have to pay 250 tk additional to the normal 300 tk. they dont have anything more to setup and yet these is the charge. one of my friends told me that i can have it with additional 100 tk. i charged him about it and said the fare is not logical. and he gave me a solution like i have to pay 200 tk but these will not be included in the bill. i can have the second connection but the authority does not need to know about it! and i thought isnt he paid enough by his employer?? or its just a opportunity every 'wise' man will take!!!

trivia
in cricket wickets are like money you can spend. it depends on your ability/sense to use the money in the right way in the lifetime(50 overs). today bangladesh had all the money, but in a 22 overs span. now think that your lifetime is shortened and you have all the money you wanted to spend in your expected natural lifetime! just think about the opportunity! we have spent them with very poor result. :(
what i liked about this night - the cool breeze after a hot sunny day.
what amazes me about australia - to others the cricket is a game. to australia its child-play.
what i despise about australia - they play like robots.
what should be done - australia should be disqualified as they dont face any competition.
what irritated me mostly tonight - the remote controller. it isn't working when i want. and i found out that each time i press a button and it isnt responding, i feel pain on my fingertip! and also it seems hard too!! :-?
watched "dejavu" of denzel washington in the cineplex. its about time traveling. they wanted to make a science fiction and ended up with a science fantasy(does this line make sense)! rating 6 out of 10.

go bangladesh go!

thank god that bashar chose to field first. because i don't like these over curtail and Duckworth-Lewis method thingy.[DL calcualtor] they will turn your winning game to a nightmare. for example SA had to take 22 runs in 1 ball during a past world cup match. its a game, not some mathematical thesis. there should be some kind of touch of reality to ensure the given target is not impossible to achieve.
anyways, so we are now in the super eight. lets have our fingers crossed and hope that bengal tigers will bite some more teams in their.
wishing every bangladeshi a victorious independence day.

good luck bangladesh
so srilanka has made it easier for bangladesh. we were calculating about various situations where bangladesh has to achieve some impossible targets. as we lost the last game to srilanka by such huge difference, our net run rate gone to negative, to such a point it was difficult to overcome and get chance in super eight. now only Bermuda is ahead of our dream come true. as the match fixing is polluting the gentleman's game, we were worried about srilanka not trying to win the match against india. though srilanka was never alleged for fixing ever, but you never know, right?
anyway bangladesh, its almost as easy as sitting in a train without having to do nothing else but staying in it! the train will take us to destination! (sorry for this lame metaphor... :P) ... 150 million people are waiting to see you guyz qualifying in the super 8. please don't break our hearts!

cricket world cup 2007
i came to office today, a little content, as Bangladesh has won against India in their first match in the cricket world cup 2007. it is a good victory for a corruption worn country like Bangladesh. when we cant see anything(some are improving these days; lets see how long) improving in here, Bangladesh cricket team gives an opportunity of celebration and joy. true, we haven't won the world cup or haven't ensured the super 8 in the least, but winning against a good team is always enthusiastic and encouraging.
this feels so good, because i was watching the match through an Indian channel and these people
don't even want to think about losing to Bangladesh. but face the truth dear, and follow your own ad where you say "jhut boltahe o log jo boltahe daar nahin lagta". :P and certainly this wasn't a fluke. everybody knew very well that Bangladesh will try to win the match and thus India was prepared for it. Bangladesh won by playing better in all the sectors. now we are expecting srilanka will beat India as well, so that our path gets clear.
another thing that caught my eyes is an Pepsi ad where the Indians are shown as royal Bengal tigers! i thought it meant Bangladeshi team. what i found out is both of the countries national animal is royal bengal tiger. hmmm.... now thats embarrassing. :-?
while watching the match till late night i was worried about attending the office! i will sure drowse the whole day. so as i was expecting Bangladesh to win the match i wanted them to make it as fast as they can(!!!) so i can have a little more sleep. also expecting they would not be hasty and lose all the wickets in this winning position as they are used to do. only habibul bashar played like dumb and gave up the wicket for nothing. such immaturity!
additionally Pakistan is out of the world cup. :D......... so cheers guyz. keep up the good work!

cold in dhaka and the rickshaw puller
its really cold today in Dhaka as it is quite foggy now in the morning and wind is blowing to crack
the bones. i know its nothing compared to other parts of the world but we Bangladeshis cant tolerate temperature under 10 degree Celsius. when i came out of my home to go to my office i felt i have made a mistake and i should put an extra jumper inside the jacket. anyways so i hired a rickshaw. the rickshaw puller is as poor as any other and had less warm clothes than me. i was shivering in the cold wind and feeling a little ashamed looking at the rickshaw puller.
when we reached my office i thought - why not offer the rickshaw puller a warm cup of tea from the tea stall. so we sat down on the bench of the roadside tea stall and ordered two cup of tea. my body was still shaking a little from the cold. but i was feeling good for my deed. the rickshaw puller looked at me and said - "Allah apnaderi shukh dise, tai na?(Allah has granted you enough happiness, isn't it?)"
i was startled, surprised and speechless.
NB: 2007 is going to be the warmest year in record.

crash! bang! boom!
bangladesh is experiencing a very bad political hangover. while the normal people are supposed to be fresh from the long vacation and sweet days of eid, they are beat to death, chopped into half and shot like dogs by another bangladeshi. and almost for nothing. the whole bangladesh watched in horror how the life of a human being is lost so cheap. there used to be a time when the political parties had the attitude to win the election. now they want the other party to lose. wait it is the same, right? not really. because days back winning the election meant control over everything within the country and great opportunity to get rich. and now if the opponent party wins you will be shot/burnt/hanged. such is the situation now.
certainly the people that died during the last 2 days are somehow connected to the politics. i dont trust the politicians and i dont join their procession. as simple as that. but i was thinking what came to the person's mind just before death!!! i felt bad for the victim's family. coz they watched their loved one being beat like a rat or worse than that. they kept beating the lying dead body, with bamboo sticks, of someone they dont know off. how much angry u need to be to kill a fellow person just like that!! may Allah bless the departed souls and help the alive ones for their own good.

congratulation to Dr. Mohammad Yunus
Dr. Mohammad Yunus is the first Bangladeshi to win a nobel prize ever. this is certainly a matter to be proud of. my heartily congratulations to Dr. Yunus and his dream organization Grameen Bank. by the norwegian authority for the nobel prize for peace 2006 selected Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank
when i heard the news, i thought Dr. Yunus got it in economics. but the idea is "fight against poverty is also a struggle for peace."
congratualtions to Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank once again to bring such an honor for him as well as for the country of 140 million people.
"for their efforts to create economic and social development from below"his innovative program 'microcredit lending' helped millions of poor family, mainly poor women to be self employed and get rid of poverty. as those families dont possess the credit, that is required by conventional banks, to allow them for loans. the microcredit loans of grameen bank defined easier ways to get to them. so that they dont have to beg anymore. not only that, most families have improved the standard of living.

beat the drum
being an iutian has a major drawback for social image for the iutian. before writing further let me say it is the only international university of bangladesh. yes, it is not a private university. there is a reason behind me shouting like that. everytime i was introduced to somebody, the common question i had to face is, "what is iut?". once a relative of my frnd said, "banger chhatar moto koto kisu je ber hochhe idaning!"...:-S....so i said, "excuse me this was established back in 1981, though it was ICTVTR, it started graduation programme in 1994 with the name IIT(Islamic Institute of Technology, now IUT). im sorry that u dont know what is going inside ur country." so she said,"oh then IIT started the private university craze?" :@... my reply was, "no ma'm, its an international university." and said to myself, "calm down, u have to explain to ppl who dont use their brain.".......
another interesting event was like this - one of my iutian frnd was traveling from iut - dhk. while talkin with the stranger in the next seat he said that he is an iutian. and was replied with, "huh! y didnt u get chance in the X university(not naming it)?" completely disgusted he said, "no i didnt get chance there." it was kind of true, coz he actually didnt get chance there. how would he without giving the exam? :P
sometimes you have to beat ur drum. else nobody is goin to do it for u. The Daily Star Web Edition Vol. 5 Num 734
germany played very attacking yesterday against ecuador and klose has 2 goals in the 3-0 scoreline. and im not glad that germany is becoming invincible. actually nobody is except the german supporters that is. on another important game england vs sweden was a tie.
so two matches are fixed for the second round.
1. germany vs sweden.
3. england vs ecuador.
im expecting the match between argentina and holland is going to be spectacular. both the team is playin cool now. let there be fight for honor....:D
here is a rather exotic idea to create a clock.

once again......
so once again dipu went for the written test in Grammen Phone. i have one theory on how u get a good job. these days, telecom companies are the best place for the engineers, specially eee and cse. obviously the reason behind is, healthy salary and lots of facilities. its the dream job actually. u can earn a load of money, be happy, proud and say each time u meet ur frnd [who's not in telecom and want to be there], "dost khub koste asi." i wish i could say the same words, knowing that its not true. previleged are those who can lie like that.
i told dipu, "dost dont be excited. if u r appearing for written in GP, u r not getting the chance. so dont worry about the exam." it doesnt matter on the grade of the exam, coz i think these exam papers are actually never examined. i divided candidates for these jobs into 3 categories-
1. these have no Mamu or no Luck, so they never gets the call for an interview/written. GP doesnt care about these.
2.these have Mamu[with very little influence] or small luck. so they get the chance to appear for the written exam. and surely they wont be called again. dipu appeared for the same post 1 months ago. i guess the questions are same also. in my opinion, it is organized by the companies as a consolation, almost sayin, "you wanted a call for an exam, u got it. now dont ask for the job."
3. these have Mamu[with strong influence] or big luck, and gets the call for the interview, or sometimes without interview- gets the job.
[Note: these are from my point of view, but i knw these are true. by the way im in the first batch.]
enough of whining. i must stop now. im waiting for the world cup to begin. one fact i always felt is, the more u wait for something, the more delayed it will happen. 9th of june seems too far.
DVD cover search engine!!!
chechnya names first beauty queen of their country. its a little exceptional then other beauty contests. here all the judges were women. also there was no swimsuit round and the contestants had to wear long skirts. sounds rather unconventional, may be weird for the non muslims. to me its something i dont understand. A beauty contest, or beauty pageant, is a competition between people, based largely, though not always entirely, on the beauty of their physical appearance. im not sayin, there should have been one swimsuit round. im just confused - y r they doin this anyway!!! whats the point?!! and y am i protestin!!! shhh, shuddup. :-S

2 weird nights in Saint Martin's Island [continued]
dipu and imran had to leave us, as they had important things to attend to. dipu's uncle was in the hospital and imran[aka menace aka trouble - for the activites. to describe him we used a quotation - "do not trouble, trouble untill the trouble troubles u"...:P] couldnt help waiting another day[as he couldnt talk to his gf from saint martin's island!]... such a lover. hmm... imran is always a spoiler of any good event in the most outrageous ways. thats becoz he wants to be with us and also with his gf at the same time. 10 of us went to saint martin's island and 2 left on the second day. it almost broke the spell. i hate it when such things happen.
in the evening as usual.... we could manage to go to the sea just 5 minutes before the sunset. went to the west side of the island. as i have described earlier, tourists come to this part only at the time of sunset, which made it absolutely perfect for the lovers, muggers and romantic lunatics...:P ... there is a perfect teashop to sit and chat about anything of the universe as we always do.
two other grps logged into our motel that day. we named one grp as neighbourhood boobs(!) and the other as neighbourhood beauty. the naming was done depending on the nature of the grp, physical and appearance both.
we decided to have a barBQ at the midnight. the neighbourhood boobs and their husbands followed ourfootsteps. i wish the other grp did that too....;)....
in between the motel and the beach there is a barren empty space. there was a bushy place on the western side of it. the night had little breeze and no moon. the stars kept shining doin their duty...:P... the preparation for the barBQ was going on there. we grabbed a bedshit from our room and lay their on the sandy place to observe the barBQ process and chat around. some of us were tryin to make another night with ghost-stories. i was so tired, that i didnt mind what they were tryin to say. gazing at the dark sky loaded with blinking stars, through sleepy eyes.
suddenly we heard a voice, "ye bhaaaaai! ye bhaaaaaaai!![is someone there]" the sound had a certain helplessness in it. someone in grave danger. so we requested our cook(bcoz he is local), to find what this is about. we shouted for some time, "keee?? ki hoise bhai??[who's there?]"... the voice kept asking for help, "yee bhaaaai!!!"... the cook said someone is jokin!... cursing whoever it was we minded our own business[we thought this type of joking is common in here]. but the voice got more tensed and wouldnt stop. so i jumped and started running towards the dark beach, almost like a blind. in the half way i found out the person asking for help is our frnd!!!!!!!!... "quick, my moblie has been robbed!"...huh!! i thought saint martin's is a place of common, gentle ppl.....

messed up interview

i had waited long for a chance to give an interview in any telecom company in bangladesh. started giving my cv from the september last year. and it is May 2006, and i got one call for interview atlast in Rankstel. though it wasnt easy. i have a friend in there. yes thats the hidden reason of getting my call. it has proved once again, that in our country you wont get a fair chance to fight in your field. you must have someone to back you up. i felt released and guilty at the same time. i am in a split mind, one prayin to get the job and the other not to. i want the job, coz im interested to in the telecom field [coz it has money and prospect], also i dont like my current job. i dont want this particular job, coz if i get it, i have to get it by cheating. now im not sayin im the angel, never done a bad word in life. im sayin if i have to cheat, i must cheat for something more valuable. say getting a job in GP or Ericsson is good enough. muhahahahah.
what i have learnt in the real life is really amazing. before getting the job in Vonair i faced another interview in BJIT, another leading s/w develpoer company from Japan. i was honest with them, answered all the questions well and accurately. so i was asked at the end -
- whats ur future plan?
me: i wish to earn money now. will do the job for at least 2 years, and in the meantime prepare for a scholarship to do my masters.
-u see, uve done well in the interview. but u have to keep it ur mind that, we prefer a reliable, moderate programmer than an unreliable, good programmer!
i nodded as if i understood at that time. the thing was clear later, that it implied they are not hiring me, coz i want to do higher studies. all my friends and family scolded me well for being honest!! so in Vonair when they asked what my future plan was, i said, i will never do my masters. y will i? if im satisfied with the job and the money i dont want any masters!
so they hired me sayin - look we r hiring you only for ur ethics and interest in the field.....:-S
apparently they have thanked me and hired my for losing my ethics. yes thats what reality is.
i had waited for the interview long. which made me exhausted and lost any interest whatsoever to try for it. i was careless and tensed and messed up the total interview. couldnt answer silliest questions. at one point the GM asked me to draw the GSM architecture on a paper. i was triyin hard to write it down, but my hand started betraying me. so the GM offered me another pen, "here, this pen is good".... i blushed and smiled a little and said, "thank u sir, but this pen is ok too. its just my hand is shaking!!" .... :P.... so at the end it seemed like i have made a circus out of myself. i was laughing, they were too. i wish i could see my face at that time! how do i look when i act like a dumb! .... hmmm

2 weird nights on saint martin's island [continued]
we slept tight that night and may be some had nightmares too. :P... i went to sleep deciding that im not staying another dreadful night in this creepy place. didnt even care that normally i'd like to see the sunrise.
next morning, woke up early(much later of sunrise) in the morning so that we can go to 'chhera dip'. one can walk there on foot during the low tide. but it gets detouched from the main island during the high tide. there is no such thing that will attract ur eyes on the chhera dip. its just the idea of being on the furthest corner of bangladesh.
the sun is always burning ur skin and make u sweat. we went there by a boat. once again i was amazed by the color of the water. it was deep blue, with a hint of green in it. i thought i like tanned skin and its an oppotunity. so pulled my shirt out. and tried to savor the scorching sun!!! actually it gave me a burnt skin rather than tanned skin...:S... nothing special happened there. on the way back a tourist like us slipped into the sea, while trying to get on his boat. good thing is there were enough ppl to save him and it wasnt that deep.
couldnt wait to jump into the sea myself....:P... got back to our hotel and took the football and ran for the beach. we have lost 0-1 in dhoincha vs lovers. anyway, its the fact that lovers are the winners, they are lovers coz they are winners and those who wins gets loved....:D... well no worry we dhoinchas have the sea, the sky(blah blah) to love, and above all we have the freedom to love the lovers of the winners...:P...khik khik...

2 weird nights on saint martin's island [continued]

well we were damn tired, so after the lunch even the sun set couldnt attract us more than a bit of sleepin. as always we came out on the beach just 5 minutes before the sunset.
the island is very small and one can take a trip all around in 2/3 hours. anyway our hotel is near the jetty- the eastern side of the island. and this part is the whr ppl live. the western side is almost deserted. if u want to be totally alone frm the crowd there is a tent on the western side u can rent. and thr is a hotel also. it is very romantic and little bit dangerous also. coz nobody can hear u, if u r in trouble. thr is a teashop there just on the beach, the strong wind is blowing almost all the times and sound of waves splashing on the shore. we sat there in the dark to chat about almost everything in this galaxy. it was just fantastic.......
well after the dinner we went to the beach just in front of our bunglow. sat on a small bedsheet. the excellent part of the sea is the constant wind and the never endinf waves. i enjoy the time whn we sit somewhr and share our thoughts and experiences. also bcoz we are all funloving, a lil crazy guyz. we like to laugh together and get scared together. so it was planned we will get scared today. i can bet if u want to get scared really and be serious about it, it doesnt matter how many u are. and started sharing unusual events we heard frm others, made by us (imran mainly... he is a great chapabaj, and made them on the instant. once on the verge of chapabzi he claimed 4,00,000 guest came to his uncle's wedding!!!!!!!!! and it was hard to make him believe that dhk stadium can have 75,000 ppl at the best.) as usual imran has a pocket full of events and all of them happens in his life, not heard frm others. the situation got weird. there were some other grps on the beach too. one of the grps started shoutin(singing) with a drum(dhol). they were creating sound like the cannibals about to eat a live man. one point is thr is no electricity in saint martin's island after 10PM. so u cant see far in the total darkness, as it was a night without a moon; only millions of stars. on the far end of the beach a grp made a fire to barBQ. but the sight of a fire only intensified the situation. the part of the sea just in front of us couldnt be seen now in the dark and this is the place two of our knwn faces were drowned and dead. a local man said a weird story about an old witch under the sea draggin boys under a white stone.
here is another story that was shared by dipu. one day he woke up in the morning and couldnt find the "bodna" in the toilet..:P...
so he started shoutin "whr the hell is the bodna??"
his elder sister- "its in the dining room."... :O...
amazed he asked "who took it thr?"
-"you!!! u was circling around the dining table with the bodna in ur hand at 3AM!!!"
-"what!! y didnt u call me?"
-"i was scared!! so got under the quilt."
hahahahahah.... well it sounds funny now in the broad day light. but just imagine one of ur relatives say ur brother walkin around the dining table with a bodna in his hand in the dead of the night!!" i think ppl with weak heart will just faint.
anyway we wanted to be scared and we were successful. but so much that we almost came running frm the beach to the bunglow. shut all the doors and windows even though it was a hot night. and nobody cared to go to the bathroom before sleeping, and i was thinkin about droppin the idea to stay another night in here....... 2 weird nights on saint martin's island [continued]
the lady in black is stuck premanently in my memory. its my nature. i fall in love with every beautiful(female.. :P ) in this world. anyway, the journey by the seatruck was nice. there was genlte breeze with the sun shining bright. we reached saint martin's island at about 12 in the noon. rented a room large enough for 10 of us!! yes actually it was for 8 ppl, but not so small for 10. only in bangladesh it is possible to make rooms like that.
we ran to the beach to play football. frm the beginin of the trip we decided to play a match. lovers vs dhoinchas. well its hard for ppl outside iut to understand what is a dhoincha. to explain it briefly, dhoinchas are more like stallions. free frm everything in this world. actually lonely ppl. the playin stopped after 10/15 minutes. as i got tired! and the sun was made me feel dizzy. jumped into the and played with the football, tried to swim and searched for good lookin chikitas as usual....:P
i had visited saint martin's island once two yrs ago. and i was fascinated by the fresh and tasty fish of the place. and i always bragged about it to my frnds. the expectations were high this time. bcoz i dont talk about food normally. and as im praising it, that means its really good. but too much expectation made the food feelin like mud. im sorry guys....:(
the hotel we stayed in is a actually a 1 storied tinshaded U-shaped banglow. the sea can be seen frm the veranda. thr is large bushy area on the left of the path to the beach frm the hotel. it looked odd. coz thr was no large trees and no houses as well. but it seemed its a good place to with great view of the sea..... 2 weird nights in saint martin's island [continued]
in teknaf there is one canteen beside the jetty. as we had 1 hrs to kill and needed our breakfast we got into it and orrdered for "dim parata". these ppl are crazy and done knw what to do whn. we waited for 45 minutes for the breakfast to arrive and got nothin. our trip manager dipu :P got really angry, shouted the hell out of them. and i never saw dipu this much agitated.
anyway got into the seatruck at 10 AM without breakfast and all of us were fuming, and to add the pain a ^&%$^%$** teacher frm iut was in the same seatruck with his wife. he gave us enough pain back in the university. always braggin about how good and tough dhk uni is than iut! huh!! yeah thats y, we even didnt try to get admitted thr. whatever.
on the seatruck we got on the deck. its was a bright sunny day. and i liked that cool breeze flowing. sat thr, chattin and havin fun. seagulls were flying. its a wonderful sight. it make it more beautiful a girl in black dress came on the sidewalk of the upper floor. she was shining like a black diamond!..:P... it reminded me the "titanic"! she was frm the elegant class and im frm the lower middle class. thanx to the black sunglass. it helped me to stare like stupid at her...:) she had a man with her. he has a moustache similar to nobab shirajuddulah (dont get the wrong impression, nobab was the most unsuccessful and worthless king of bangla). i sighed and thought "ki ase duniyay, joto mofiz bhalo bhalo meye noya ghure" and started watching the birds flyin, atleast they are free frm the mojizes.... :P [to be continued]

2 weird nights on saint martin's island
i always like to travel around. it makes me feel good. also i dont like to be in the crowd. so most of the times i wish to go some places whr ppl dont go normally or whn ppl wont go normally. but now i have office to attend, so i dont have much opportunity to chose frm. whn i got the 3 days vacation last month frnds frm iut_cit(islamic university of technology_computer science and IT) went to saint martin's island. and the island was jam packed with tourists, in this monsoon.
anyway, we started at 9:30 frm dhk by bus. it was a hot humid day in dhk whn we left. as we were 10 in number and we kept on chattin whole night long (other passengers - sorry for their sleep!)... at 2/3 AM in the night suddenly we were in a dense fog!!!! and started feeling cold. amazing! do anybody expect fog in this spring whn the avg day temperature is around 30 degree!!reached cox's bazar at 7 AM. got into a bus to teknaf. it was a hell of a ride. was feelin im in a roller coaster, jumping, banging, twisting....:P
teknaf... 9AM... stopped in the jetty waiting for the seatruck to start. ppl in here are very poor. they will stare at strangers in a odd way. ........... [to be continued]
