go bangladesh go!

after the much rain affected match bangladesh was able to beat bermuda and get ticket for the super 8! which off course makes a history for the bangladeshi cricket. sorry india. while watching the game last night i was listening to our local radio and heard a very wise advise which fans should follow, - "as long as the team is winning, don't criticize. if they have lost a game, you can criticize them if you want but dont harm them/ try to harm/ burn their effigies/house." because its true that we were expecting from them something better and they have failed us, but they also make us proud on other times. i heard that indian fans went crazy and taking destructive actions to show their anger. i am just happy that bangladeshi cricket fans doesn't have this kind of attitude(!) though we criticize our team like hell when they lose. for example we knew srilanka will beat us in the group match but we expected the players to play like professionals. when you cant win you can at least try to keep the net run rate as much up as possible. take risk for your dream, but don't jump from the bridge when you can see there is only concrete roads beneath you.

thank god that bashar chose to field first. because i don't like these over curtail and Duckworth-Lewis method thingy.[DL calcualtor] they will turn your winning game to a nightmare. for example SA had to take 22 runs in 1 ball during a past world cup match. its a game, not some mathematical thesis. there should be some kind of touch of reality to ensure the given target is not impossible to achieve.

anyways, so we are now in the super eight. lets have our fingers crossed and hope that bengal tigers will bite some more teams in their.

wishing every bangladeshi a victorious independence day.

good luck bangladesh

so srilanka has made it easier for bangladesh. we were calculating about various situations where bangladesh has to achieve some impossible targets. as we lost the last game to srilanka by such huge difference, our net run rate gone to negative, to such a point it was difficult to overcome and get chance in super eight. now only Bermuda is ahead of our dream come true. as the match fixing is polluting the gentleman's game, we were worried about srilanka not trying to win the match against india. though srilanka was never alleged for fixing ever, but you never know, right?

anyway bangladesh, its almost as easy as sitting in a train without having to do nothing else but staying in it! the train will take us to destination! (sorry for this lame metaphor... :P) ... 150 million people are waiting to see you guyz qualifying in the super 8. please don't break our hearts!

cricket world cup 2007

i came to office today, a little content, as Bangladesh has won against India in their first match in the cricket world cup 2007. it is a good victory for a corruption worn country like Bangladesh. when we cant see anything(some are improving these days; lets see how long) improving in here, Bangladesh cricket team gives an opportunity of celebration and joy. true, we haven't won the world cup or haven't ensured the super 8 in the least, but winning against a good team is always enthusiastic and encouraging.

this feels so good, because i was watching the match through an Indian channel and these people don't even want to think about losing to Bangladesh. but face the truth dear, and follow your own ad where you say "jhut boltahe o log jo boltahe daar nahin lagta". :P and certainly this wasn't a fluke. everybody knew very well that Bangladesh will try to win the match and thus India was prepared for it. Bangladesh won by playing better in all the sectors. now we are expecting srilanka will beat India as well, so that our path gets clear.

another thing that caught my eyes is an Pepsi ad where the Indians are shown as royal Bengal tigers! i thought it meant Bangladeshi team. what i found out is both of the countries national animal is royal bengal tiger. hmmm.... now thats embarrassing. :-?

while watching the match till late night i was worried about attending the office! i will sure drowse the whole day. so as i was expecting Bangladesh to win the match i wanted them to make it as fast as they can(!!!) so i can have a little more sleep. also expecting they would not be hasty and lose all the wickets in this winning position as they are used to do. only habibul bashar played like dumb and gave up the wicket for nothing. such immaturity!

additionally Pakistan is out of the world cup. :D......... so cheers guyz. keep up the good work!

absolutely devastating end for zidane

almost everybody expected zidane to leave the field with a golden trophy in his hand and a jubiliant smile on the face. or atleast pain of not touching the peak of success. but it seems he wanted a red one instead of the golden one and like the back door. heh heh. i mean he almost asked to be kicked out. what a shameful attack and rightly served. i couldnt find him getting his medal with others. had he left? was he ashamed? did he cry for blundering his efforts of years? who knows! he was a lonely titan. u wont find many skillful players these days. zidane was one. and now a fallen one.

france got their lucky hand in the 7th minute of the game. zidane almost spoiled the chance by hitting the cross bar. an inch upper would have been a 1-0 defeat to france. italy desparately attacked and got their goal by materazzi by a fantastic header from a corner. they almost got another one from a similar kind of attack which hit the cross bar. what i found out, a team needs luck along with talent to win the worldcup. france had it and lost it. where italy tried and kept it. i had always said italy is an awfully defensive team. and i really didnt expect them in the finals. on the other hand, france not playing well in the grp round, was on the verge of leaving the worldcup behind. yet these are the two teams that played the final match. they fought equally. and as i predicted, it needed a tie breaker to decide the world champions. where i thought 0-0, it was 1-1. the goal keepers didnt have to do anything. the result was decieded by david trezeguet. may be wanted to follow zidane, and thus hit the cross bar. but luck wont follow u every time. although i had doubt with the azzurries. they have a tradition to miss penalty shoot outs. but turned out well. congrats to Italy[the awfully defensive team with good looking players...:P] for beating a black team representing a white country! khikz!

bye bye zidane...:D

italy, france made it to berlin

i felt anguish once again in the same worldcup!...:S... as i wasnt supporting any team the first semi final felt a rather boring to me [though most ppl dont think so]. so i decided to support portugal in the second semi final. and they are out! damn it. brazil lost against france had a reason, brazil couldnt play at all. where in portugal dominated the whole match. i wanted to see ronaldo, miguel, maniche to sprint through the midfield and it happened. i wanted to see the true competetion and i saw it. but the defense of france kept standing like the great wall which i didnt want...:P... anyway, the penalty shoot out was reasonable. coz it was a delibarate try to stop henry, but in an illegal way. ricardo almost stopped the shot by zidane. but zidane somehow found his charm back in fullest form. unlucky is the word for portugal. at the injury time of the second half Ricardo(goal keeper) came in the Dbox of france! and i felt bad for them. [aha re..:P]. how desperately they wanted to break the defense, with no result. better luck next time ronaldo!

now italy will play against france in the final match in berlin. and it makes me worried! to me 3-3 is a better game to watch than 0-0.... and i can see the final match will be like 1-0 or end with a tie breaker. lets wait and see who wins the title for the next four years.

italy not germany

i always wanted germany to be out of the game. as a brazilian fan i was in a fix which team to support on the match between argentina and germany.... :P.... rather shallow thinkin?! yes, might be. but i cant help it. coz whenever ur team loses u need other teams to lose, or get harrased by ur friends....;).... now almost no team with good amount of supporter are left. italy has a load of female fans [i think for their looks]. for the same reason brazil has so less of them... coz these brazilian stars look like complete nut except kaka. i felt so sleepy during the game. to tell u the truth i expected true european speed in the game. but it seemed a painful show of defense. im not saying they didnt try. they fought a defensive fight. im saying they should have been a little more aggresive. after 118 minutes of defensive play italy got 2 goals in 2 minutes! can u imagine! im happy. i prefered italy in this game. may be im criticising too much. but u c i like the pace of c. ronaldo. hope to find todays match interesting...:D

good bye brazil, argentina and england

after all the quarter finals are finished, the one thing i can say is that i enjoyed all of them. the contests were absolutely amazing. but the sad point is 90% bangladeshi football fans have lost their craze. yeah. coz they supports either brazil or argentina. atleast argentine fans have someone to blame. brazilians have none. france was on top of their spirit yesterday night. they have skill and they had to prove their worth, they tried upto their limit and that made them a fantastic team. even brazil cant stop them from winnin the match. as a brazilian fan my breath had been stopped the whole 90 minutes. i could see how they are playin with the stars of brazil. only in first five minutes brazil was on control of the game. and the rest of the time they were tryin to get the ball. with a team of so many worldclass stars they tried hard with result zero. if france keeps on playin like that none can stop them from gettin the worldcup.

england fought well with a ten men team. and i enjoyed this match thoroughly. id say this match had all the element a spectator wants. full of attacks and counter attacks. anybody could have scored any moment. anyway portugal had a goal keeper hero to take them to semi finals.

argentina lost the match just becoz of the decisions of the coach. everybody was wonderin about the reason pekerman took requelme and crespo of the field. did he think keepin a lead for 70 minutes is enough to think they have won! hello man! u have ur best goal keeper on the bench. it was a suicide decision. they cant afford to give germant any chance, coz these germans are nothin but robots. they play very calculated game. and as it went for the penalty shoot out, i was more than sure about the result. a better goal keeper than kann is defendin the germans. there is absolutely nothin argentines could do with crespo and requelme on the bench.

and about italy i have nothin to say. face germany now man....:

quarter finalists defined

nothing much to say about the last 4 second round matches. australia played too good and italy as usual played defensive game. id say the referee scored the goal instead of totti. to me that wasnt even a foul, let alone penalty. the defenders are allowed little fouls inside the dbox. and italy is the most awful team to win the worldcup thrice. didnt watch the switzerland vs ukraine. but the team of shevchenko is now in last 8. and they are doin good in their first worldcup finals.

brazil won the match against ghana, and proved that experience can beat speed and enthusiasm. it say ghanayan players played well and had many chances to score. it was luck and finishing touch that was lacking. and brazil lost the charm of last match. they moved slowly, as if y bothering much if we r winning. won the match almost effortlessly. they should understand playin like that might make them the winner, but certainly the fans are disappointed. the goal of adriano might have been an offside. so brazil will meet france in the next match. as the team of zidane beat the spaniards by 3-1. a great shock for spain and raul. but one must win the game now, and it is france.

gladiators in football field!

if anybody has missed the match between portugal and holland, its a miss of the decade. it was a war instead of just a game. both teams finished the game with nine men after a game which equalled the World Cup record for bookings - 16 - and broke the record for red cards. deco and costinha were dismissed for portugal, while boulahrouz and bronkhorst(crazy names!!) saw red for holland. maniche scored the only goal. it all started when ronaldo was injured in a foul. and he had to leave the field, and it was a nasty attack. as the time passed on, both the team became agitated and started doin outrageous tackles, on the opponant players. their were much pushin and dashin, and one by one they got their own yellow cards. sexteen bookings! and they were supposed to get more. the referee was helpless. becoz showin more cards could eventually make the match postponed. the second half was full of it. i dont support any of the team, but watchin it made me feel scared. coz its thousands of ppl out there in the stadium. and the fightin between the players could ignite the crazy fans, and after that u dont knw how to control them. i was thinkin, am i goin to spectate a real life massacre! and the time wasnt tickin, i was prayin who ever wins let the game finish. it was a shame for the country.

on the other match between england and ecuador, england won 1-0. though they have won the match it was a painful and dull game to watch. beckham saved england with the only goal. and i was expecting england to play as good as their media says. certainly english ppl are the most unearthly of all.

anyway, its switzerland vs ukraine and italy vs australia today. not much interested to watch myself. so i will sleep well today...:D... its just too much to attend the office after watchin the midnight matches.

the knock out begins...

after the round robin part, the world cup stepped into the most amazing part. the do or die, win or cry.... i just love the tension! before going to that part, lets update the previous results. ronaldo atlast got his goal crossed the record of Pele and standin with gerd muller. one more and he is immortal! or may be i should say he started moving his body. coz whenever he moves he scores..:P... ok ok. not 100% true. but true enough. and the most fantastic part for the brazilian fans is that brazil is back to their normal skill. just hope that it stays long enough to win the 'hexa'. and everybody knows its not going to be that easy this time. all the powerful teams are on the second round, except czeck republic. too bad they are out. but ghana got what they deserved. i expected the argentina vs holland match to be rather exciting. as argentina just beat serbia 6-0 and holland on the attacking mode too. but u have to give away smaller games for bigger ones. both team just wanted to be sure that their players are not injured and without a yellow card. its all in the game. ivory cost was the most fantastic team that failed in the grp matches. they were excellent on the field, with skill, speed and power.

so the first two matches are played. and as a result argentina is going to face the host germany in the quarter finals! my my. that will be a match! im sure. sweden was not upto the standard against germany. they got agitated and lost their hope. the penalty sweden missed was the greatest chance to come back to the race.

argentina vs mexico. result 2-1. mexico on fire the first 20 minutes. and to me it seemed the first two goals are scored by them!... i mean i saw the first goal for argentina was an own goal. or may be not. after getting the upper hand in 6th minute by marcuez, they just lost the magic by themselves. the whole 90 minutes was well played by both the teams. in the extra time what rodriguez done was simply superb. it was a spectacular goal. receiving a ball with chest the volleyin it on the fly. two things i must say about the match, first - the argentine defender should have got a red card for the foul, and second - i think it wasnt offside when argentina almost scored at the second half. anway the result is 2-1 and argentina won. congrats to argentina and sympathy for mexico.
